Baptism Requirements

You must present the state birth certificate; if the child is under the age of 4 months you can present the hospital’s certificate. The donation is $145. ($100 non-refundable). 

God parents must be at least 18 years old and have received the sacraments of Baptism, First Holy Communion and Confirmation. If the godparents are married, they must be married by the Catholic Church and practice their faith.

Baptism Celebrations take place on Saturdays (subject to change). 

Parents and God-Parents must take a Pre-Baptismal Class before the day of the baptism.

If your Child is 7 years old or older, they must attend Catechism classes before they can be baptized. In this case you must call the Religious Education Office at (562) 633-1126 ext106.

Baptism is the sacrament of faith which has the Risen Christ as its source, and it is the offer of salvation for all people. Intimately linked to Confirmation and to Eucharist, Baptism is, with these two sacraments, Christian Initiation. The child is baptized in the faith of their parents, godparents and of the Church.

Through Baptism, God enables us to participate in his life in Jesus Christ and makes us his children. It is through this sacrament that we receive the Holy Spirit and become members of the People of God, of the Body of Christ, which is the Church. Baptism becomes our commitment to grow in this new life and to strive to acquire spiritual maturity. By baptism, God purifies us from sin.

Parents are responsible for bringing their child to the Sacrament of Baptism as soon after birth as possible. Except in case of necessity, the church is the usual place of baptism.

In order that a child be baptized, it is necessary that the parents’ consent or at least one of them, or someone legally standing in their place, and that there is reasonable hope that the child will be brought up in the Catholic Faith.

In order for someone to be eligible as a godparent they must be chosen by the parents, have the ability and the intention to fulfill the role, be at least 18 years of age, and be a confirmed Roman Catholic, who has already received the Most Holy Eucharist, is leading a life in harmony with the Catholic Faith (including Marriage) and will be a good role model for the one being baptized, and be neither the father nor the mother of the child.

GODPARENTS: A person may only have one or two godparents (also called sponsors); if two are chosen, they must be male and female.



A baptized person who belongs to another Christian community may be admitted only as a “Christian witness” (not a godparent) provided that there is at least one Roman Catholic godparent who fulfills the above criteria. A non-baptized person cannot be a witness (Code of Canon Law, cc. (562) 633-1126; Catechism of the Catholic Church 1255)

Debe de presentar el acta de nacimiento; si es menor de 4 meses puede traer el certificado del hospital. La donación es de $145. ($100 no-reembolsables). 

Los padrinos deben tener al menos 18 años de edad y haber recibido los sacramentos del Bautismo, Primera Comunión y Confirmación. Si los padrinos están casados, deben estar casados por la Iglesia Católica y practicar su fe.

La celebración de Bautizos se lleva a cabo los sábados(sujeto a cambio). 

Los padres y padrinos tendrán que tomar una plática pre-bautismal antes del día del bautismo.

Si el niño/a tiene 7 años o más de edad, debe de asistir a clases de Catecismo antes de que pueda ser bautizado. En estos casos favor de llamar a la oficina de Educación Religiosa al (562) 633-1126 ext106

El bautismo es el sacramento de la fe que tiene a Cristo Resucitado como su fuente, y es la oferta de salvación para todas las personas. Íntimamente vinculado a la Confirmación y a la Eucaristía, el Bautismo es, con estos dos sacramentos, la Iniciación Cristiana. El menor es bautizado en la fe de sus padres, padrinos y de la Iglesia.

A través del Bautismo, Dios nos permite participar en su vida en Jesucristo y nos hace sus hijos. Es a través de este sacramento que recibimos el Espíritu Santo y nos hacemos miembros del Pueblo de Dios, del Cuerpo de Cristo, que es la Iglesia. El bautismo se convierte en nuestro compromiso de crecer en esta nueva vida y esforzarnos por adquirir la madurez espiritual. Por el bautismo, Dios nos purifica del pecado.

Los padres son responsables de traer a su hijo al Sacramento del Bautismo tan pronto como sea posible después del nacimiento. Excepto en caso de necesidad, la iglesia es el lugar habitual del bautismo.

Para que un niño sea bautizado, es necesario que el consentimiento de los padres o al menos uno de ellos, o alguien que se encuentre legalmente en su lugar, y que exista una razonable esperanza de que el niño crezca en la fe católica.

PADRINOS: Una persona solo puede tener uno o dos padrinos; si se eligen dos, deben ser hombre y mujer.

Para que alguien sea elegible como padrino, deben ser elegidos por los padres, tener la capacidad y la intención de cumplir el papel, tener al menos 18 años de edad y ser un católico confirmado, que ya ha recibido La Sagrada Eucaristía, llevar una vida en armonía con la Fe Católica (incluido el Matrimonio) y será un buen modelo para el que está siendo bautizado, y no ser ni el padre ni la madre del niño.

Una persona bautizada que pertenece a otra comunidad cristiana puede ser admitida solo como un "testigo cristiano" (no un padrino), siempre que haya al menos un padrino católico que cumpla con los criterios anteriores. Una persona no bautizada no puede ser testigo (Código de Derecho Canónico, cc (562) 633-1126, Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica 1255).
